#FlashbackFriday: NYC Theatrical Premiere of RICK SPRINGFIELD Doc – 10/10/12

Where the heck does time go?

Today marks the two-year anniversary since “An Affair of the Heart” opened in NYC.  What an amazing day (ok, week!) that was for everyone on the “Yellow Rick Road” … Quite frankly, this was a day Rick Springfield and the Yellow Rick Road took Manhattan by storm. How so??? Well, …

(1) Rick’s incredible new album, “Songs for the End of the World” was released the morning of October 10th …

(2) Rick Springfield SHOCKED commuters by performing on the subway and at various subway stations …

(NOTE: Check our Yellow Rick Road YouTube Channel to watch a few other videos our crew captured of Rick’s multiple performances on the subway that morning).

(3) Rick Springfield spent the majority of the day doing back-to-back press interviews promoting his album AND the theatrical release of our documentary.

(4) October 10th, which also happens to be World Mental Health Day, concluded with the world premiere theatrical screening of “An Affair of the Heart” at the IFC Center in Greenwich Village.

Besides the screening and Q&A, Rick was also on-hand to sign copies of his new CD and a stack of official “An Affair of the Heart” movie posters.  Plus, in typical Rick fashion, he was willing to take lots of photos with his fans.

Videographer Mark Russell and YRR cameraperson Sony Stark were on hand to capture the festivities along with the YRR Team: Director/Producer Sylvia Caminer, Executive Producer/Producer/Marketer Melanie Lentz-Janney and Editor David Dean.

Since the theatrical premiere, we’ve been very focused on the business/distribution side of producing an independent film. Although we may not post on here like we used to, we sure have remained very busy.  We want to take a moment to thank everyone who was a part of this HUGE milestone …

A big shout out to our incredible “producing” team for helping bring this whole dream project to life.  If the following people had not believed in this project and stepped in, it NEVER would have happened. Thank you: Dancy Myers, Bambi Myers, Jay St. John, Susann and Robert Undi, Kari Kron-Schmitz, Pamela Geiger, Kevin Surace and Melissa Kaye. Also, a big shout out goes to Claire Springfield, Linda Toibb and Kelly Moore.

Many of our producing team members, along with some amazing and devoted fans, hit the streets of Manhattan with movie posters, postcards, and Yellow Rick Road bumper stickers. We wanted to fill the seats at each of the screenings and show potential distributors that there was an audience out there for this film beyond the diehard fan market.

Now back to our THANK YOUs …

Thanks to journalist/author/comedian Rob Tannenbaum for moderating our Q&A. By the way, you can pick up his book, “I Want My MTV” on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Want-My-MTV-Uncensored-Revolution/dp/0452298563#

Thanks to Harris Dew and the Team at the IFC Center for believing in our film and booking it for a 9 day run: www.ifccenter.com

Thanks to our domestic sales agent, Diana Holtzberg, of Films Transit International, for your help in making this theatrical premiere a reality: www.filmstransit.com

Thanks to Kathryn Goetze and iFRED.org for being fantastic partners and for all your do to help eradicate the stigma of depression: www.ifred.org

Thanks to Stephen Pitalo, who went above and beyond to make sure we had what we needed while in NYC and also for moderating our 2nd night Q&A and Ricktionary game with Rick.  Plus, he did a lot of blogging and outreach to help us spread the word: www.goldenageofmusicvideo.com

Thanks to Terri Semper for so many things, especially for going back to the IFC Center to collect our step/repeat banner and cutting the squares so Rick could sign them (thank you, Stacy Creamer!) and we could offer them to fans as unique collectibles. We have a couple squares still available at: www.rickspringfielddoc.com/yellowrickroad/store

Thanks to Kris Fluck, our talented webmaster and “go to” graphics guru, for putting up with our endless requests and always delivering good work at the speed of lightning: www.killerwebsdesign.com

Thanks to Lisa Sigona, who donated Rick collectibles for us to sell on eBay … and Melissa Kaye for running our eBay site … we needed every penny that came in!  Speaking of penny, thanks to Penny Tate and her husband Dan for jumping on board the Yellow Rick Road, holding the street sign at every opportunity possible and literally being slam-dunked into the Rick World.

Thanks to ALL the featured fans, other Rick fans and our friends/family who supported this project in any way, shape or form … not just the fortunate few who were able to attend the premiere in NY.  It took a village to make it to that night and we will never forget that it couldn’t have happened without your love for Rick and complete support of the film.

Thanks to ALL the journalists, critics (who wrote glowing reviews), photographers, reporters, bloggers, social media enthusiasts and peeps who wrote/tweeted/shared/commented/etc about our film … and those of you who are still mentioning it, we bow to you!

Thanks to our entire YRR Virtual VIP Crew as well as our regular crew.

And last. But not least, a HUGE thank you to Rick Springfield (and his team) for their support. This was not Rick’s project, but he was a trooper in allowing us access to make this film.  He also remastered ALL the music in the film (thanks, Matty Spindel) and travelled to promote our film in Florida, Canada and Amsterdam as well as NYC.  www.rickspringfield.com

So, where is the Yellow Rick Road today??? … Well, the film is out on many different platforms all over the USA: EPIX, iTunes, Amazon, and more.  If you haven’t seen the film yet or no someone who hasn’t seen it, PLEASE pick up a copy of the DVD or BluRay – there are a lot of bonus features that are only available on the hard discs: www.rickspringfielddoc.com/yellowrickroad/store.

Believe it or not, we are still on the hunt to get this film in other territories in addition to the USA. We had no idea it was going to be as challenging as it has turned out to be to prove there is an audience out there who will buy this film. We promise we will post on this site as well as our social media sites availability of our film outside the USA WHEN it is confirmed.

We still LOVE seeing the YRR street sign popping up with celebrities (thanks to the activating powers of the #WonderTwins, Penny & Nancy Hubbard) and those of you who purchased the signs as part of our fan funding initiative. If you have a photo that shows you on the “Yellow Rick Road” (it does not have to be with an official street sign), please be sure to share it with us on Facebook and Twitter.

If you want to see more video footage from this amazing night in NYC, be sure to check out some of the other videos on our Yellow Rick Road YouTube Channel. Here are a few to look for:
