Featured Fan: Sue DeVita

Full name: Susan DeVita

Nickname: Sue
Age: 42
Hometown: Wall Township, NJ
Occupation: Mother / Wife
Favorite Rick song: Anything, but “Jessie’s Girl”! (haha … just kidding!) I don’t have a single favorite, but “Love Somebody”, “Don’t Walk Away” and “I Get Excited” are a few of my top favorites! Oh, and “Affair Of The Heart”, of course! hehe…
Number of Rick concerts: Not sure, stopped counting at fifty and that was years ago.

First Rick encounter: The first time I ever met Rick was at a sound check at The Count Basie Theater in NJ in 2005. Prior to that I had been “Human Touched ” at concerts and gotten his autograph, but never actually met or spoke to him. At the sound check I was soooo nervous and to make matters worse, I was pregnant! (What was I thinking??) He was so sweet and down to earth, but I was extremely nervous and could barely talk so my sister did most of the talking for me. We posed for a picture together and he started rubbing my pregnant belly and I almost  fainted….I told him he had to stop because he was making me have contractions ! LOL

The longest distance you have traveled to see Rick: I flew from New Jersey to Milwaukee for the start of the documentary filming!

Your Rick Story: I ran home from school to see the “new ” doctor on General Hospital and that was the beginning of being a longtime fan. When I heard he was a musician, too. I bought his albums and posters. I also bought pink converse sneakers…ha ha! My sister Lynn started taking me to local concerts. As I got older, I made some great friendships with other fans and we have had some crazy, fun adventures together that will hopefully continue for many more years to come!

How do you feel about being cast as a featured fan? Honestly, it all seems very surreal. When I was first asked to be a part of the documentary I thought “oh my gosh how cool!” Maybe I’ll be able to see myself in the movie for a second or two in a concert crowd scene! I never, ever, thought that they would be following me around with a camera! Me??!! Like my husband said why do they want to film you? You’re boring! And he’s right! haha… I cannot tell you how lucky and honored I am to be chosen to be a part of this film. It is a dream come true!

Where did the camera crew film you? They started filming in Milwaukee. After that they followed my friends and I to many concerts and book signing events in the NJ /NY  area. They filmed me in my home. They also filmed us on the 3rd Annual Rick Springfield And Friends Cruise, which was a whirlwind of non-stop fun!

Why do you think you were selected to share your story? Although Rick has a very varied fan base I think the majority are probably “married with children” … Mom’s like JoAnn and me. I think our story shows that even though we put our families first, we need a “girls night out” every once and awhile and since it isn’t easy to do, we make it worth it and go to a Rick concert!

What was the most memorable experience during the filming process? Too many memorable experiences to pick just one, but Rick surprising us at the hotel the first day of filming was a complete shocker!  We had just arrived and they caught us totally off guard! Also, going on a cruise with my girlfriends and Rick was awesome!

Did you have any revelations you’d like to share as a result of being a part of this film? It is amazing to see how diverse his fans are and to hear the stories of how Rick has touched their lives and brought happiness to them in so many different ways. Its very touching.

How are you feeling as we are counting the days until the first official screening? I haven’t had a good nights sleep in a year! I’m soooo excited!!

Anything you’d like to add: I would like to thank Melanie and Sylvia for choosing me to be a part of this amazing documentary!!!

To my sister Sue . . . the biggest Rick Springfield Fan in the world! Yes, I am the one who started the affair of the heart by taking you to your first Rick concert! Who would have thought you would be a featured fan in his documentary? I don’t know anyone who deserves it more! I have totally enjoyed every concert we have been to (and I have lost count too!) Can’t wait to see the documentary! Yes, you have proven you can be both the best Mommy in the world, and the best Rick Springfield fan at the same time!!
