If all you know about Rick Springfield was that he longed for Jessie’s Girl, you are in for a BIG surprise!
AN AFFAIR OF THE HEART: The Journey of Rick Springfield and his Devoted Fans is a new feature-length documentary about rock icon Rick Springfield and his ardently loyal fans. Directed/produced by Emmy® award-winning filmmaker Sylvia Caminer and executive produced/marketed by Melanie Lentz-Janney, this documentary not only brings us face-to-face with Grammy® award-winning musician, songwriter, actor, and New York Times best-selling author, Rick Springfield, but also places a spotlight on his most fervent fans, casting a non-judgmental, unflinching eye on what makes his fans as passionate about him today as they were when Jessie’s Girl was #1 (1981).
Everyone seems to grasp how celebrities like The Beatles and the Grateful Dead have a fan base of rabid supporters who travel the world as a homage to their idols … but Rick Springfield? Yes … Rick Springfield fans are some of the most dedicated and fanatical people on the planet … traveling great distances to see him (Rick still performs between 80 – 100 high energy shows per year).
Join us as we discover what it is about Rick and his music that drives a diverse cross-section of people to such religious devotion; What meaning has he had/has in their lives; Is this just an American phenomenon of does it stretch around the globe? How do loved ones feel about this undying devotion? We also find out from Rick what he truly thinks the connection with his fans is ultimately about and what it’s like to be the source of such a timeless “affair of the heart.”
On the journey, we meet some of Rick’s fans and talk to a variety of people who are not quite sure what to make of this whole Rick phenomenon. We also provide a glimpse into Rick’s career over the past four decades including highlights from concerts (US & Europe), the annual Rick Springfield and Friends Cruise, and his 2010 book release/press tour. It’s a real peek into the life of Rick the “artist” and the “human being”.
This documentary is unlike other music documentaries and it’s much more than an intense look at Rick Springfield. It’s a human-interest story that takes its audience on an emotional roller coasting as it touches on a variety of topics including following our dreams, connecting with like-minded people, and the healing power of music.
